SPIRITUAL DIRECTION

In the midst of an active life, many young adults find it difficult to notice God’s action in their day to day activities. Some find something missing or want something more in their relationship with God while others are looking for a meaningful way to reflect on their experiences in a faith context. Do you think that you might benefit from the opportunity to periodically talk about aspects of your life as a Christian in a relaxed and confidential setting?  We offer two types of spiritual direction:

    ●
Individual
    ●    Group

INDIVIDUAL SPIRITUAL DIRECTION

Over time, meeting regularly with a spiritual director can help you grow in your faith and realize your potential in God. Here are just a few among many reasons why a young adult may want to seek our a spiritual director:

    ●    You are in a life transition and want to
understand where God is in the challenges and
          confusion...
    ●    You want to be more aware of how God is
alive and active in your every day life...
    ●    You want to be able to pray your
          experiences...
    ●    You would like to see how God is calling you in
the relationships and events of your life...
    ●    You are making a life-changing decision and
need someone to be with you in the process of
          deciding...
    ●    You have some issues with your Church or
with God that you want to discuss in an
          honest, non-judgmental setting...

Whether your faith life is confused, conflicted, committed or anywhere else in between, you may want to talk it through with someone who can listen well and give you feedback.  This may be the chance you're looking for to sort out what you believe in at this time in your life.  If you are interested why not look for our program, Exploring Spiritual Direction, which we offer several times year or simply contact us at CBSC.

GROUP SPIRITUAL DIRECTION

This is a process in which a small group (3-5 persons) come together regularly to accompany one another in finding God in their daily life.  Group spiritual direction includes periods of silent reflection, personal sharing, and responding.  Everyone has time to speak about their faith journey and time to listen contemplatively to the others.  Groups typically gather together once a month for about two hours.  Some people prefer to be part of a community of like-minded persons rather than individual spiritual direction.

An online version of the Shalem pamphlet on Group Spiritual Direction, which gives a good explanation of the process, can be found at the following link:  Shalem Group Spiritual Direction

If you are interested in individual spiritual direction or the formation of a small group, please email us at cbsctr@gmail.com or call (215) 508-0861.  We'll get back to you and keep you updated on the progress of starting a group.

WHAT WE DO

The Center upholds the Lasallian traditions of the Christian Brothers by offering programs for the human and spiritual development of young adults. Women and men in their 20’s and 30’s have rather age-specific needs that are not always adequately met by the local Church and so we meet them where they are at through spiritual, educational, social and service programs. We believe that our style of hospitality, mentoring and programming are unique to the Philadelphia area and that young adults find the experience of CBSC interesting, engaging and formative. Refreshments and socializing follow each of our programs.

SPIRITUAL PROGRAMS

    ●    Advent and Lenten Series
: A weekly session on traditional themes and
          spiritual practices for the season.

          questions about Spiritual Direction.

CENTER OUTREACH

We offer ourselves as a unique resource to Young Adult Ministry groups in the Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia. We also respond to the spiritual needs of young adults of other faiths, of various community and ethnic groups and of the immigrant population. In addition to ministering to young adults in Manayunk and surrounding neighborhoods, we offer our Center and Staff to groups in the greater metropolitan area. We are also available to take our programs to other locations on invitation and assist groups in designing programs to suit their particular needs.

Programs can also be developed in response to requests from young adults or leaders of young adult ministries. We are eager to prepare programs of interest to young adults such as:

    ●    Workshops
    ●    Men’s and Women’s Health Issues
    ●    Grieving
    ●    Journaling
    ●    Faith in Everyday Life
    ●    Trying New Prayer Forms
    ●    Book Club
    ●    Evenings, Days and Weekends of Reflection

All we need is a little feedback from you to get us moving!
